End-of-day close-out checklist
Final check of the day: tools stored, tidiness, power isolated and site secured. Recorded in the field, with or without signal.
The end-of-day close-out is the task nobody wants to do properly: everyone wants to leave, the foreman is rushing, and the site is left “more or less” secured. That is when things happen — the panel left energised, the gas cylinder left open, the floor opening without its cover that somebody fails to see the next day, or the smouldering hot spot that flares up at night when nobody is around.
An orderly final walk leaves the site safe for the hours it stands empty, and ready to start the next day without surprises. Isolating power and gas, storing tools and fuels, checking guarding and confirming everyone has left takes a few minutes and prevents theft, fires and after-hours accidents. And it records that the site was closed properly, with an owner and a time.
