In retail the store stockroom is where problems hide: overstock that does not move, product that expires without anyone noticing, shrinkage that grows because nobody records it. Unlike the shop floor, customers never see the stockroom, so disorder is tolerated until it hits the numbers: out-of-stocks on the floor with product sitting in the back, or losses from expiry and internal theft.
Stockroom order is also a safety matter. Boxes stacked to the ceiling, blocked aisles, a fire extinguisher hidden behind stock or an obstructed emergency exit are real risks to staff and a direct violation in an inspection. A routine check keeps the stockroom tidy, stock rotating and storage conditions — cold chain included — within spec.
