Mine area safety inspection checklist
Verification of conditions before starting work on a mine site. Completed in the field, with or without signal, recording that the area was checked.
In mining the accident rarely gives warning. A berm lower than the tyre height requires, an unventilated face, a bare cable in a wet area: each condition looks minor on its own, until they combine with the fatigue of a twelve-hour shift and the result is serious. Area safety inspection exists to break that chain before it starts.
Checking the area before work starts is not bureaucracy: it is what separates a normal shift from a fatality. And on a regulated mine site, being able to prove the area was inspected — who, when and what they found — is as important as the check itself.
