The vehicle pre-operational inspection is the check the driver runs before heading out with a truck, van or delivery vehicle. It takes a few minutes and prevents what gets expensive: being stopped on the highway, a fine at a police or transport authority checkpoint, or an accident that a visual check would have prevented.
In logistics the problem is rarely knowing what to check — it is making sure the check gets recorded. When it is done from memory or on a sheet that gets lost, there is no way to prove the vehicle went out in good condition, and the findings (a blown bulb, a bald tyre) do not reach maintenance until they are already a problem.
