Heavy machinery inspection checklist
Pre-operational check for backhoes, cranes, loaders and heavy equipment. Recorded in the field, with or without signal.
Heavy machinery causes the most serious accidents on a site: someone struck from a blind spot, a backhoe rolling over on soft ground, a load coming loose from the crane. And there is almost always a warning sign nobody looked at: the reversing alarm that stopped sounding, the hydraulic leak that had been growing, the sling with broken strands used anyway “because we had to get on with it”.
The pre-operational check before starting the machine each shift catches those faults while they are still cheap to fix. Checking fluid levels, brakes, hydraulics and safety systems takes a few minutes and stops equipment going out with a condition that later ends in a rollover, a person struck or a dropped load. It also leaves the record the company needs for the insurer and for lifting equipment inspections.
How to use it with CaptaLog
Copy the template and the operator runs the pre-operational check from their phone at the start of the shift, even with no signal at the work face. Any “non-conforming” item on a critical point takes the equipment out of service and raises an action for maintenance, with a photo and a date, keeping it traceable which machine was authorised and when.
