Hot work permit checklist
Control before and during work involving fire, welding and cutting in oil and gas facilities. To complete in the field, with or without signal, before authorising.
Hot work is one of the leading causes of fire and explosion in oil and gas facilities. A welding spark, the heat of oxy-cutting or a grinder near an atmosphere with hydrocarbon vapours reaches the explosive limit in seconds. What is serious is almost never the task itself, but what was around it that nobody tested.
The hot work permit exists to force the pause: test gases, isolate lines, lock out energies and post a fire watch before the first spark flies. In the field, though, it is easy for the gas detector to be out of calibration, for the reading to have been taken two hours ago, or for a nearby drain to have been left uncovered. This checklist organises those critical controls so the issuer signs with real backing.
How to use it with CaptaLog
Copy the template to your account and the issuer or safety officer completes it from their phone at the work site, even with no signal. Every reading is timestamped, every non-conformity becomes an action that blocks authorisation, and the whole permit is recorded with photo, GPS and signature to prove the control was carried out.
