Scaffolding inspection checklist
Pre-use inspection of scaffolding: stability, ties, guardrails and platforms. Completed in the field, with or without signal.
Scaffolding is where most people are killed in construction, and almost always for the same reasons: it was erected in a rush, someone removed a brace to get through, the platform ended up one board short, or simply nobody has checked it since it went up. The problem is that scaffolding looks just as solid on the day it holds as on the day it collapses.
The pre-use inspection — with a green or red tag properly displayed — is the difference between a worker climbing with confidence and climbing onto something that was already failing. Checking the base, bracing, ties, platforms and guardrails takes minutes and prevents the fall the insurer later investigates. And it records that this scaffold was inspected and authorised before anyone set foot on it.
How to use it with CaptaLog
Copy the template and the erector or safety officer inspects the scaffold from their phone before releasing it, even with no signal in that part of the site. Every “non-conforming” item blocks its use and is left as an action with a photo and a date, providing proof that the scaffold was only authorised once it was compliant.
