Pre-trip inspection checklist
Check tyres, brakes, lights and documents before heading out — the driver does it in the yard, with or without signal.
The pre-trip inspection is the difference between spotting a worn tyre in the yard and blowing it at 100 km/h on the highway. In transport, most serious on-road failures — brakes, tyres, lights — give warning signs before departure, but only if someone looks. Five minutes of checks prevent a roadside breakdown, a fine at a police checkpoint or an accident.
The real problem is that the driver often takes whichever vehicle they are given, without knowing how the previous shift left it, and nobody records the condition it set off in. When there is a failure or a roadside check, there is no record that the vehicle was inspected. A signed, timestamped pre-trip check protects both the driver and the company.
How to use it with CaptaLog
Copy this template to your account, adapt it to your fleet, and the driver completes it from their phone next to the vehicle before leaving the yard — even with no signal. Each inspection is stored with a photo of the tyre or the fault, number plate, odometer reading and time, ready to prove the vehicle went out compliant.
