Warehouse inventory is what keeps the system honest. When ERP stock says one thing and the aisle says another, orders get dispatched that cannot be completed, you buy what you already had, and expired product is lost without anyone seeing it. Cycle counting exists so that gap never grows too wide.
The real pain is that discrepancies are found late and without traceability. Someone counts on a spreadsheet, enters it into the system days later, and by the time a mismatch appears nobody remembers which location it was or why. Recording the discrepancy on the spot, with a photo and a location, is what lets you find the cause instead of just adjusting the number.
