The damage report is what stops every knock ending in an “it wasn’t me” argument. In transport, vehicles pass through many hands and many kilometres: without a record with a photo and an owner at the time, it is impossible to know who caused the damage, when and where. What is not documented ends up being paid for by the company or by the wrong driver.
The real problem is the gap between the damage appearing and someone reporting it. If a shift goes by without a record, the evidence is lost and responsibility dissolves. A report raised on the spot, with dated photos and the location on the bodywork, settles the insurance claim and protects whoever handed the vehicle over in good condition.
