Electrical PPE verification checklist

Electrical PPE verification is the last barrier between the worker and an arc flash or electrocution. A dielectric glove with an invisible puncture, an out-of-date helmet or a damp hot stick stop protecting exactly when they are needed most — and the worker has no way of telling by eye.

What is critical here is test validity. Dielectric gloves and hot sticks must be periodically retested, and using an expired one is as dangerous as using nothing. When the control is kept on a spreadsheet nobody reviews, expired equipment stays in circulation and there is no way to prove, in an inspection or after an accident, that the PPE was fit for use.

This checklist forces a review of every item — gloves, helmet, hot sticks, arc-rated clothing, insulating equipment — and a record of its condition and expiry before every job.
